
New Delhi, July 26 (MExN): Three students' bodies from the North-East based in Delhi have warned against traps “setup by fraudulent websites and social media platforms” through various online auditions, selfie contest etc.
A joint statement issued by Naga Students’ Union Delhi (), Kuki Students’ Organisation Delhi & NCR. (KSOD&NCR), Manipur Students’ Association Delhi (MSOD) alleged that such platforms, the name modelling and stage performance, are “trying to get attention from vulnerable girls from North-East” and recruiting them for illegal activities in other Asian countries.
The statement cited the citied a viral post on social media about one such platform and they (the three students’ bodies) have received claims that such platform is trying to get attention from “vulnerable girls from North East” by unscrupulous person.
“We don’t guarantee about the authenticity of the particular viral post. Nevertheless, people should be very alert about fraudulent platforms,” it said.
Condemning such activities, the joint statement alleged that it was also “part of systematic racism and discrimination which has not stop till now.”
Many incidents have happened in the past where those seeking jobs are “ttrapped in the path of forced labour, sexual slavery, commercial sexual exploitation by taking advantage through many agencies,” it alleged.
“Even few of our own naïve people are also involved in the recruiting process,” it added.
In this connection, the three students' bodies “sternly warned” such fraudsters to immediately stop these activities for personal gains.
They further asked “those misguided agents who are recruiting people for these fraudsters to not involve in such business.”
“If needed, we are ready to take help from state and central agencies to take up actions against such business and those involved if they are stubborn enough to continue doing such malicious activities,” the joint statement added.
The NSUD, KSOD&NCR and MSAD further appealed to all the responsible people of the North East to look into this matter seriously and said that it is high time to take up necessary precautions.
