Dimapur, November 19 (MExN): The Capacity Training Centre of North East Christian University (NECU) conducted a workshop and training from November 12 to 16.
The training was supported by the State Council of Science, Technology and Environment, Meghalaya aiming to equip the unemployed youth and Self Help Group (SHP) with the necessary skills for self employment and sustainability.
“This training which was a ‘hands on kind’ had six trainers from Meghalaya and the trainees were engaged with an hour of theory and six hours of practical every day,” stated a press release issued by Arenkala Kichu, Assistant Professor, NECU.
The training was divided into two categories- low cost baking and green technologies. The first three days were focused on baking cakes, cookies, doughnut and bread by using firewood-based low cost baking oven and kiwi jam, gooseberry and chilly pickle, squash and juice were made by using the agro-based portable food processing machinery with Caroline as the main instructor. The baking oven and multipurpose food processing machinery which was used in the training are all customised with low cost and are all portable.
The final food product was sold on the third day of the workshop. The last two days of the workshop were focused on green technologies such as improved chulha (‘nil’ smoke emission), low cost water filter, solar incubation for low cost hatchery, stabilised mud blocks and bamboo technology which would be convenient for our everyday use.
The workshop was conducted by Shan, Technical Assistant, SCSTE. On the final day, Augustus Suting, the Officer on Special Duty, SCSTE conducted an interaction session with the participants.
