NECU hosts Naga Culture Symposium-III

Dimapur, December 10 (MExN): The North East Christian University (NECU), Dimapur held its 3rd annual Naga Culture Symposium (NACS-III) based on the theme 'Cultural heritage of the Nagas: Indigenous tribes of the North East’ on December 9. 

A press note from NECU stated that the symposium is complementary to the annual Hornbill Festival that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Nagas.” Likewise, the Naga Culture symposium is aimed to revisit and highlight both academic as well as rich cultural artistic traditions of the Nagas. The overarching theme for the symposium is on the socio-cultural themes, where various experts present and share their ideas.”

Owing to pandemic, it was held in the form of webinar. It began with welcome speech by Dr Samson Chiru, faculty of International Relations and Vice Chancellor of NECU, Prof Darlando Khathing gave the inaugural address.  

Dr P Ngully, Consultant Psychiatrist and Chairman, Kohima Educational Society delivered the first talk on the topic ‘Preventive Health Culture: A Naga Perspective’. This was followed by a presentation by Dr Sapu Changkija, Professor, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, NU-SASRD who highlighted the various traditional agricultural practices and ecosystem in Nagaland. Dr Adangla Changkija, Lecturer, Fazl Ali College spoke on the art of weaving and its cultural significance among the Nagas. The final talk was given by Nengneithem Henga, Founder of Runway Nagaland, who shared her knowledge regarding Naga Traditional Ornaments. 

The programme was moderated by Dr Pfokrelo Kapesa, faculty of International Relations and Neisakuonuo Tungoe, faculty of English. Altogether, around 60 participants from NE attended the symposium.
