DIMAPUR, JULY 15 (MExN): The Nagaland Electrical Contractors Union (NECU) has issued a press release addressing concerns over unauthorized electrical works being conducted in the state. The union has observed that some individuals are procuring and executing electrical projects without adhering to established rules and regulations.
In light of these practices, the union urged all registered electrical contractors to strictly follow the Nagaland Electrical Licensing Regulations, 2005, as well as directives issued by the government. The union emphasized the importance of compliance with several notifications from the Chief Electrical Inspectorate, including those issued on July 29, 2008, July 21, 2022, April 13, 2012, July 7, 2022, and September 10, 2014. These notifications prohibit the unauthorized leasing of electrical licenses, the execution of electrical work by unlicensed individuals, and the awarding of contracts to non-holders of identity cards issued by the Electrical Inspectorate.
Further, the union reiterated that licenses are non-transferable and warned members against leasing their licenses or letterheads to unauthorized persons. It also highlighted the importance of adhering to established safety standards.
The union cautioned that selling or issuing test certificates without actual work performed is illegal. Members found in violation of this rule may face legal action. Additionally, the union called upon the Electrical Department and relevant divisions within the Government of Nagaland to ensure compliance with the Indian Electricity Rules, 1956, and the Nagaland Electrical Licensing Regulations when awarding contracts.
