“The State Government has a major problem for creation of workforce for our educated unemployed but at same time it is regrettable that most graduates are considered unemployable in industries or various sectors because of various factors,” stated Er Levi Rengma, Parliamentary Secretary for Housing while addressing the SD Jain Girls’ College, Dimapur 24th freshers' social-cum-annual-day.
Addressing the event held on September 22 at the college premises, Er Levi Rengma said, “The talks of town today is about educated unemployment in the State, but just think of it how can a small State like Nagaland, the Government provide jobs to all educated youth which is more than 70,000 and is increasing every year.” He observed that “there is no unemployment problem amongst the educated youths if only he/she is employable, like we need a large number of Science and Math teachers but there are only few locals as you all have seen recently the Government has to de-reserve math and science teacher posts in Education Department.” He added that “we should diversify our field of studies for jobs and also to build our economy.”
Expressing concern about the lack of popularity of Science streams with Naga students especially Math subject, he said, “it is a matter of concern that today in Nagaland we have 62 Colleges but there are only 7 Colleges which offer Science streams and that too Math subject is least preferred.” He emphasized on the importance of higher education in today’s world. He said that girls have outshone boys in various fields. He said that one of the important aims of higher education is the training for leadership in profession and public life, so one of the functions of college is to train men and women for wise leadership. “Therefore education should be inculcation of wisdom and knowledge,” he added.
The chief guest also unveiled the college magazine on the occasion.
