Need to focus on agro-forestry to enhance state economy: Vikheho

MLA Y Vikheho Swu today emphasized on the need to focus on agro-forestry in order to enhance the economy of the State.

Speaking during the inauguration of marketing shed this morning at Pughoboto to sell the organic products of Pughoboto sub-division, Swu said with large chunk of the State covered with forest area, there are immense potential of carrying forward economic enhancement activities through agro-forestry.  

“We can promote furniture industry and also large scale rearing of animals to meet the enhanced meat products requirement within the State like pig, cow, goat and mithun,” he said, adding that if we promote agro-forestry, our state’s economy will enhance. Further, Swu encouraged the rural farmers to sell their products at fair price than that of urban areas to attract travelers. Expressing that any business cannot flourish without honesty, Swu appealed “Pughoboto’s trademark of being ‘honest’ should not be lost”.  

Swu reminded the people of the sub-division about the five ongoing economic enhancement programmes through the Local Area Development Fund since 2014 for the welfare of the people. The programmes include Thuvuni Pughoboto, Three for all piggery, Eco-ride Cycle distribution, Green Pughoboto and Beyond books.  

Meanwhile, meeting the people of Pughoboto Assembly Constituency for the first time after being dropped to MLA with the ongoing crisis within the NPF Party, Swu said the NPF legislators and party leaders with Dr Shurhozelie are on a legal fight with the dissident legislators in the court of law. He appealed to the Party workers and leaders to remain firm and not to be swayed.  

ADC Pughoboto Avelu Ruho chaired the inaugural session, wherein dedicatory prayer was offered by Pastor of Pughoboto Town Baptist Church rev Akhato Achumi. Short speeches were also delivered by SDAO Pughoboto Hukato, PATC vice chairman Viyikhu, Lazami VCC Yikuto and Sumi Totomi Hoho Pughoboto Vitoli T Wotsa.
