Parliamentary Secretary for Municipal Affairs, R Tohanba today emphasized on the need to strengthen unity and understanding within the respective tribe in order to achieve peace in the larger perspective of the Naga society.
“As Nagas we have to start building up unity and understanding from home, that is, the respective tribe only after which we will be able to have sustainable peace to progress ahead in oneness,” Tohanba said while addressing the 22nd General Meeting of Yimchungrü Union Kohima (YUK) on the theme “Strength in Unity” at Capital Convention Centre here. He also called upon the Naga people to inculcate social and moral courtesy of respecting the elders and also uphold the principle of forgive and forget, besides setting good examples for the younger generation to follow suit.
The Parliamentary Secretary also expressed that in order to strengthen the union, it is necessary for the leaders to understand the minds and character of their community members.
Block Development Officer (BDO) Chessore, S. Lakiumong exhorting the gathering called upon the leaders of the Union to be humble and patient to take forward the Union in particular and the tribe in general.
YUK President T. Kejingkhum delivered the welcome address while folk song was presented by Yimchungrü Women Organisation Kohima Unit and special numbers by Yimchungrü Students Union Kohima. Reports for the tenure 2015-17 were presented by General Secretary T. Kiutsuthong Phuvrü, Finance Secretary K. Lato Zhimkiur and Statistical Secretary T. Lokhum. Associate Pastor (Women) Yimchungrü Baptist Church Kohima pronounced the invocation while benediction was offered by Church Secretary Vongsuthong.
YUK elects new team of office bearers
Meanwhile, during the session, new team of office bearers for the 2017-19 was also elected, which include President – T. Kejingkhum, Vice President – A. Ariba Huker, General Secretary – T. Akhumba Zanger, Assistant General Secretary – T. Kiusangthong Phuvkiu, Finance Secretary – K. Lato Zhimkiur, Press & Information Secretary – Johan Kiutsukiur, Statistical Secretary – H. David Hutanger, Art & Culture Secretary – T. Pusukhong and Treasurer – A. Akum Huker.
