Need thorough discussion: Rio on FMR issue

Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said that the Union Government’s recent move to scrap the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the India-Myanmar border need thorough discussion before being implemented.

“We have to consult the people,” Rio said on the sidelines of an official programme here today.

Replying to media persons on the stand of the state government on FMR, the Chief Minister said, “If need be, we have to work out a formula” as how to solve the issue of the public to prevent infiltration because Nagaland is bordered with Myanmar, and on both sides there are Nagas.

Earlier, Nagaland’s Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton said that the State Cabinet will discuss the FMR issue.

He also informed that Nagaland along with other North-East states bordering Myanmar is going to discuss the matter and approach the central leaders.
