OTS and Samagra Shiksha Nagaland create awareness on disability and inclusive education
Dimapur, May 23 (MExN): An awareness and sensitisation programme on disability and inclusive education was organised by Oriental Theological Seminary (OTS) in partnership with Samagra Shiksha Nagaland at OTS campus in Bade, Dimapur on May 23.
Diethono Nakhro, State Commissioner for Persons with Disability gave the keynote address and emphasized the need to recognize the rights of persons with disability to have equal opportunities. She said that negative attitude of society towards disability is one of the biggest barriers to inclusion of persons with disability. She expressed a need for the church in Nagaland to participate more actively in the field of disability.
Samagra Shiksha team highlighted inclusive education and the status of inclusive education in Nagaland.
Daniel Thong, Senior Lecturer and Head Inclusive Education and ICT, SCERT, Nagaland, and Chairman of Jo Foundation, an inclusive school in Kohima, provided the OTS students with practical examples of inclusive education and impressed upon them the importance of a strong theological basis and calling in becoming champions for inclusion.
