The North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) today condemned the recent violent police crackdown on students in New Delhi in which many were injured and detained.
The group in a statement said it strongly condemned the brutal lathi charge on students in New Delhi on June 7. It said the students were protesting against the Manipur government at Manipur Bhavan in the national capital when security forces descended on them “without any provocation.”
The forum said the role of both the union government controlled Delhi police and Manipur government controlled Manipur Rifles is condemnable, as both the forces cracked down on the peaceful protesters in a “colluded manner.”
“It’s a clear manifestation of the ruthless way in which the governments continue to rule over people. NEFIS will stand against such brutal attacks on the right of the people to stage protest and will continue to fight and build a movement against such acts of state violence,” the statement added.
