Forum for Cultural Studies ICFAI University Nagaland celebrates 2nd annual cultural day

Dimapur, March 11 (MExN): Forum for Cultural Studies (FoCuS), ICFAI University Nagaland celebrated its 2nd annual cultural day on March 10 under the theme, ‘Negotiating Food and Culture.’  

Abokali Jimomi, Organic Nagaland, was the resource person for the event. In her talk, she emphasized on the importance of preserving traditional ingredients to keep our food culture alive. She also stressed on food as an essential element of culture because it operates as an expression of cultural identity.  

The Music Club presented Hi Hiyo Hi as an opening act for the day. The first session showcased narratives of origin stories, musical piece, Nepali dance (Kadam Chaloagipachi), traditional songs and show. Food exhibition by different community constituted the second session. More than seventeen groups came forward to exhibit the food of their respective community.  

“It was indeed an excellent opportunity for everyone to learn more about the food culture of one another,” stated a press release received here. Indigenous games such as pole climbing, walking on bamboo stills, wrestling, board games and many others enthralled the participants as they vied with each other.  

The morning session was chaired by Aosenla Pongen, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics and vote of thanks was conveyed by Chingutho Trakha, MA Political Science, 2nd semester. Photography Club members provided the coverage for the event.
