Parliamentary Secretary for Planning & Coordination, Evaluation & Monitoring Cell & Taxes Neiba Kronu on Thursday released the 25th anniversary souvenir of the Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) at Pfutsero in Phek district.
Ealier, in his address at the 25th anniversary wrestling meet of CWA on the same day, Kronu said DAN government under Chief Minister TR Zeliang and NPF President Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu has a lot of plan for all round development of the State. Many developmental activities on the pipeline, he added.
In this, he called upon the public to extend their fullest support and cooperation to the government and at the same time asserted that development is possible when there is unity, mutual understanding, and peaceful environment.
“Naga wrestling is definitely one of the most interesting and exciting amongst the Naga traditional sports. It demands both strength and skill,” penned Chief Minister TR Zeliang in souvenir. He felt that Naga wrestling has to be popularized and promoted, and more and more of our youth should be introduced into the sport, so that it remains popular as one of the unique cultural identities of the Nagas.
“Wrestling is as old as history itself as our people have practiced it since time immemorial. However, organized form of inter or intra villages did not exist prior to the formation of the Chakhesang Wrestling Association. With the formation of the organization, wrestling has been popularized so much that we all love the game and it is a must see event. Organizing the 25th edition of this mega event is not a mean job and through this sport, you have cemented and forged our brotherhood,” penned Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker Chotisuh Sazo.
“Naga wrestling, as it is commonly called, is perhaps the most identifiable indigenous sports of the Nagas and it is the units of NWA like Chakhesang Wrestling Association that are bearing the torch in propagating its beauty and essence,” stated Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources & Sports, Music Task Force and State Lotteries Khriehu Liezietsu.
“Wrestling is one of the oldest traditional games being practiced by our forefathers since time immemorial. Wrestling help us to maintain physically and mentally fit and not only that it foster friendship and good behaviors from among the individuals,” wrote MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu.
