Neikhozo Suokhrie and Khrielievi Chiisi have been unanimously elected as the chairperson and deputy chairperson respectively of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) in a meeting convened to elect such posts here today at Kohima DPDB Conference Hall.
The meeting was presided over by Kohima Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant with 16 elected members in attendance. The DC Kohima urged the newly elected councillors to work cohesively for the welfare and development of Kohima.
Both the newly elected Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson expressed gratitude to the officers and members of the KMC, seeking continued cooperation for the betterment of Kohima.
Neikhozo Suokhrie was proposed for the post of Chairperson by Avilie Rio and seconded by Thejavizo Philip Solo. With no other nominations received, Suokhrie was unanimously elected as the chairperson of KMC. Khrielievi Chusi was proposed for the post of Deputy Chairperson by Kazheli Tungoe and seconded by Ketousie Khamo and was unanimously elected as Deputy Chairperson.
Suokhrie was elected from Ward 18 (Paramedical) while Chiisi from Ward 17 (Upper Agri, Agri Farm, Electrical, Mewibogei and Forest colony).
