NEISSR inaugurates 2019-20 academic session
MSW students who attended the inauguration of the 2019-20 NEISSR academic session.
DIMAPUR, AUGUST 5 (MExN): The 2019-20 academic session for the North East Institute of Social Science and Research (NEISSR) was inaugurated at the premises of NEISSR, Dimapur on August 5. Sr. Pramila Lobo, the Director of ACID and Coordinator of Domestic Workers Movement, K Ela, Director Prodigal’s Home and Ajay Sethi, Managing Director of NIIT, Dimapur along with other invitees graced the occasion by sharing social issues affecting lives of the peoples and opportunities for professional interventions. The function was organized to welcome and induct the new batch of MSW 2019-2021 students and introducing specialization fields of academic and professional development to the final year batch 2018-2020.
Meriakthule N Chewang, PRO NEISSR, chaired the inaugural function. The program began with a meditation by Toviholi, 3rd semester student. Rev. Fr. John Poji, the administrator and Vice Principal led the gathering with an invocation prayer.
The Principal, NEISSR, Dr. Fr. C.P Anto, introduced the guests and extended his warm welcome to the staff and students at the inaugural function of the academic year 2019. During his welcome address, he stated that Nagaland is one of the most beautiful states in North East India; it is a land of festivals with friendly and open minded people with committed values.
Originally Naga society was a classless and casteless culture but with the passage of time the socio political situation witnessed lots of turbulence due to various concerns, he stated. Fr Anto said that today a class system is engaging with materialism as an epicenter, striving to accumulate wealth and prominent status. There is also an increased rate of educated unemployed youth. Thus, in order to curb these issues there is a need for social work intervention in all these spheres, he added.
Sr. Pramila Lobo, the Director of ACID and Coordinator of Domestic Workers Movement appreciated the students for choosing social work as their profession. She shared the activities and intervention of ACID in the lives of the community and motivated the students to play their role as a social worker.
K Ela, Director Prodigal’s Home stated that “Every community has a work to be done, every nation has wound to be healed and every heart has a power to do it”. She encouraged the students to finish their MSW course swiftly and contribute back to the society because there are lots of things to be done in the community. “Therefore we cannot lay back and just remain stagnant but have to give our best in whatever field we are called to contribute. When we give our best, God does His part and help us,” she stated. She further shared her field experiences to the students and mentioned that Prodigal’s Home is her mission field.
Ajay Sethi, the Managing Director of NIIT, Dimapur introduced the various courses offered by the institute. He also shared the importance of upgrading one’s knowledge in Information Technology (IT) and how it can enhance the students in their academic field as well as professional career.
During the program, the profile of the institute and faculty members was presented by Meriakthule N Chewang. Fifty new students were inducted and welcomed into NEISSR.
