Chümoukedima, April 14 (MExN): North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Peace Centre Chümoukedima under the initiative of NSS Unit NEISSR observed Dr BR Ambedkar Jayanti at BAM hall on April 14.

The NEISSR Desk in a press release stated that addressing the gathering, Fr GL Khing, Vice Principal NEISSR, spoke on the significant impact of Dr Ambedkar on Indian society. He emphasised that while tribal communities live with a strong sense of unity and equality, the caste system in many parts of India continues to marginalize people based on birth. Fr Khing praised Dr Ambedkar’s efforts in challenging the caste hierarchy, stating that his fight brought about lasting changes in the Indian Constitution and society.

Highlighting the values Ambedkar propagated - equality, fraternity, liberty and justice, Fr Khing emphasized that today's India continues to reap the benefits of his vision and sacrifices. Despite the hardships Ambedkar faced, including during the drafting of the Constitution, his knowledge, character, and commitment to the upliftment of the marginalized prevailed.

He encouraged students of social work to live with humility and uphold values of justice, equality, and respect, principles that Dr Ambedkar firmly stood for. He encouraged them to begin with good thoughts, which would ultimately lead to positive action. While challenges are inevitable, he emphasized the importance of remaining steadfast in their commitment to creating change, assuring them that their contributions would eventually be recognized by society.

The programme began with the reading of the Preamble of the Indian Constitution and an invocation prayer led by Hantsula Yimchungru, BSW 6th Semester, NEISSR. The programme was chaired by Vine Domeh, BSW 6th Semester NEISSR.
