
Dimapur April 18 (MExN): North East Institute of Social Science and Research (NEISSR) conducted friendly matches for the youths and children of Neisatuo colony, Dimapur on April 15 in order to promote healthy living through games and sports.
The friendly match programme was initiated by the Youth Development (YD) Forum of NEISSR with an aim to achieve certain goals; to promote the importance of physical fitness, to communicate with the community despite of backgrounds and appearance through games and sports, stated a press release from Tumchobeni of NEISSR.
Participated by the youths and children of the colony, the event had different categories of events. Youths played cricket and football, while children took part in cock fight, knee ball, spoon and marble race, biting biscuits, kabaddi, and tunnel ball. Prizes were given to winners of the contests.
Earlier, in the opening ceremony, Kechazelie, MSW student delivered a short speech on the importance of sports. He mentioned five important points on why sports is important – Many athletes do better academically, have good teamwork, acquire problem solving skills, physical fitness, sports also boosts self esteem (builds confidence), and reduces pressure and stress.
Kuzo Medo chaired the opening ceremony, where Bernic Gonmei, Asst Prof of NEISSR (Coordinator of the YD Forum) invoked God’s presence.
