Chümoukedima, August 16 (MExN): North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Chümoukedima hosted its freshers’ day programme under the theme “Towards Better Things” at Peace Centre on August 16. The occasion was graced by Kevethito Rose, Extra Assistant Commissioner of Chümoukedima, as the special guest, stated a press release.

EAC Kevethito Rose, in his address, reminded the gathering that youth is the best time of life—full of energy, choices, and the ability to shape the future. He urged trainees to recognize this stage of life as a gift, and to invest it in building character and purpose. Drawing from his personal experiences, he emphasized respect for parents and teachers, and the importance of obedience and discipline.

Meanwhile, Rose clarified humility as not thinking less of oneself but thinking less about oneself for a greater purpose. He pointed to Jesus as the ultimate role model of humility and service to humanity, encouraging students to embrace the same spirit of selflessness in their journey as future social workers. NEISSR Principal, Dr Fr C P Anto, in his message highlighted the institute’s core values of service to humanity, integrity, and compassion. Stressing the importance of maintaining high standards with holiness as the keystone, he emphasized the higher purpose of the social work calling and encouraged students to address social challenges by bringing solutions through their profession.

His address focused on the values shaping the NEISSR way of life: reconciliation to attain peace, compassion to understand others, love, peace, and leadership to guide the community.

Senior trainee, Ajunglo Kent urged the freshers to view challenges and opportunities through positive perspectives. A folk song (duet) was presented by Bilu Lohe and Vishili Sakhamo. Zuben T Tsanglao (MSW) and Neiketounuo Thapo (BSW) also spoke during the programme.

The event was invoked by Sr. Teresa of BSW V Semester, followed by a welcome song performed by the 3rd Semester BSW trainees. It concluded with vote of thanks by Th Jacob Khongsai, President of Students’ Social for Social Change (SCSC).
