DIMAPUR, APRIL 30 (MExN): The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) in collaboration IQAC Cell and CIHSR (Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research) organized one day training programme on basic life support underthe theme “Be Aware, Be Proactive, Save Life”on April 29 at Peace Center, 7th Mile, Chümuokedima.

This training was conducted to let the social work students (MSW and BSW) to be aware, get equipped with lifesaving skill, and be proactive in responding to emergency situations. 

In the introductory session, Arhomo C Ngullie, Medical Social Worker &PRO, Department of Transfusion Medicine Blood Centre, CIHSR, spoke about the importance of blood donation and the various processes that comes along with it such as, the types of blood donors, why it is needed and gap in the demand and supply. He reminded the students that blood cannot be manufactured; it can only come as a gift from people and also encouraged the students to save a life by giving blood.

Dr. Tsarangpi Sangtam, Department of Emergency Medicine, spoke on the topic ‘Basic Life Support’. He emphasized on ‘A B C theory’ (Airway, Breathing, Circulation theory) and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) which an individual can use to save a person’s life. Laying emphasis on the importance of basic life support, he explained and demonstrated various steps that come under basic life support such as indication of CPR, checking the pulses and calling for help. The resource person and his team demonstrated the procedure on CPR. 

During the programme, the students, along with the faculty members learned CPR and other first aid skillsthrough hands on demonstrations. Shalozu Kath, President, Red Ribbon Club, NEISSR proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was moderated by Victor V Aye, MSW Fourth Semester.
