NEPED ready to embark on phase-III

KOHIMA, JUNE 6 (DIPR): NEPED which has already completed two phases of its  programmes is now ready to embark on its 3rd phase 2006-2011. NEPED is a quasi-government organisation that has been functioning in Nagaland since 1995 and has been well known to the villages that have benefited from its rural programmes. The latest wave of its activities include the ‘Revolving Fund’ Schemes, the ‘Hydrogers’ and the ‘Gasifiers’.

NEPED-III will be engaged in projects for ‘Extending the Jhum Cycle’. It is well understood that the cycle or the time-gap in utilisation of a particular jhum-field has become shorter in recent years. The impact of such demands on land-usage had been negatively manifold on the ecology and the environment. NEPED-III shall be taking up the challenge to tackle this concern and shall implement projects to extend this ever shortening jhum cycle, all over the State, on a model basis for the villagers to adopt.

A preview presentation of the schemes and projects under the NEPED-III programmes was held today. The presentation was graced  by the presence of Padmashree, A M Gokhale and his lady wife and R. Kevichusa, former Team Leader. Gokhale was the man who brought NEPED to its existence along with the support of equally fervent senior officials of related Departments like Forest, Agri, Horti etc. The NEPED has in its own capacity today become the ‘Model’ for other projects in Nagaland as well as in the country.
