
Guwahati, August 12 (MExN): The 133rd birth anniversary of Dr SR Ranganathan, celebrated as National Librarians’ Day, was observed at the premises of the NERIM Central Library on August 12.
During the event, tributes were paid to Dr Ranganathan, the father of library science in India, with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp in his honour.
On the occasion, the Director of the NERIM Group of Institutions, Prof S Tripathi, highlighted Dr Ranganathan’s contributions to the development of the library system in India and appealed to all to use the library regularly as a means of learning and education.
According to an NERIM release, she also sanctioned a sum of Rs 2 lakh for the structural development of the institute’s Central Library and inaugurated the reference section of newly arrived books.
The Registrar of the Institute, Prof DP Misra, and Dr Arunav Barua, Assistant Professor, also spoke about how paper and libraries have had an unprecedented influence on the lives of scholars and laypersons alike.
During the celebration, the Best User Award of the Library was conferred upon Madhusmita Kalita, the release added.
