Dimapur, October 11 (MExN): The North East Students’ Organization (NESO) today expressed opposition to the proposed visit of Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi to Nagaland University. The NESO said in a press release today that no political party or leaders ‘should visit educational institutions with politically motivated interest.’
The NESO has urged the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) to “take appropriate action” and “block” the MP’s visit to Lumami, the headquarters of Nagaland University.
The NESO is against ‘politicization’ of educational institutions and universities, NESO chairman Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya and special coordinator NSN Lotha said in the press release. “The NESO questions the intention of the proposed visit of Mr. Rahul Gandhi, Congress general secretary in-charge of National Students’ Union of India, a Congress affiliated students’ union, to Nagaland University headquarters, Lumami on the 17th October which is informed to have been preceded by the arrival ;of Mr. Parithosh Roy, national general secretary of NSUI,” the NESO said.
The organization said it has high respect for Rahul Gandhi “as an upcoming young leader of India.” However, the NESO said, “If he attempts to pollute the minds of the students with his political ideology, the NESO would be compelled to safeguard the interest of the students.”
The NESO urges the NSF “take appropriate action towards the proposed visit of Rahul Gandhi and block his visit to Lumami NU Headquarter if his interest is to promote NSUI movement.”
