NESO urges GoI to set up special edu commission

Kohima, July 4 (MExN): The North East Students Organization (NESO) has urged the Government of India to set up a Special Education Commission in order to assess the state of education in the North East and to evolve a suitable and appropriate education policy.

“The NESO firmly believes that education is the backbone of the society and the best agency of social transformation,” NESO maintained in its recent memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at New Delhi.

On the education policy, NESO said that a relevant curriculum be formulated for the people of NE taking into consideration the rich cultural heritage, languages and history of the region.

It also felt on the need of revitalization of existing universities and colleges with new courses. Establishment of more Advanced Research Centres, Technical and Medical Colleges and Vocational Institute as well as upgradation of the existing ones in the NE including coaching centres for civil services.

It also urged GoI to consider the process of exposing traditional/indigenous games in both national and international levels; modern infrastructure facilities  for promotion of games and sports and also constitute a committee for organisation of NE Regional Tournaments in order to encourage and explore the sporting talents of the NE.

It also demanded establishment of Human Resource Centres with modern standard libraries and infrastructures in all districts of the NE states.

NESO also stressed on the need to set up more hostels for the students of NE in all the metropolitan cities.
