New Assembly Complex to be inaugurated

KOHIMA, APRIL 19 (DIPR): Kohima, the capital of Nagaland state will have yet another magnificent building complex with the inauguration of Nagaland Legislative Assembly Complex on Wednesday next, the April 25, 2007.

The new Assembly Complex which stands in splendid isolation near Nagaland Secretariat Complex will be formally inaugurated by Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio. The much awaited inaugural function amidst a host of dignitaries will be chaired by Chief Secretary, Lalhuma. Besides inaugural speech by the Chief Minister, the Leader of Opposition, I. Imkong will also speak during the function. Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker, Kiyanilie Peseyie will deliver welcome speech while N Chielie, Engineer-in-Chief, Housing will give a brief report on the New Assembly Complex. The main inaugural function will be preceded by unveiling of the inaugural stone and unfurling of the National Flag at the complex by the chief guest.

Meanwhile, a four-day 10th North East Region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (NERCPA) Conference will be held in the new Assembly Complex from May 3–5, 2007 hosted by the NERCPA, Nagaland Branch. The conference will be inaugurated by Speaker, Lok Sabha, Somnath Chatterjee on May 4.

The conference will be attended, among others, by Union Minister, Parliamentary Affairs, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha K Rahman Khan, Speaker, West Bengal, Hashim Abdul Halim, Dr Yogendra Narain, Secretary General, Rajya Sabha, F.D.T. Achary, Secretary General, Lok Sabha and P.A. Sangma, M.P. and former Speaker, Lok Sabha. Secretary General, CPA London, William F Shija is also expected to attend the conference.

Besides Speakers and Deputy Speakers of all the North East States, one MP and at least three MLAs from each North Eastern State will be attending the conference.

On 4th May, the conference will have a plenary session on ‘Development of roads and communication opening border trade and commerce: a scheme for self-employment – an instrument for solution of youth unrest”.

In a bid to organise the inaugural function and the 10th NERCPA Conference in a befitting manner, Chief Secretary, Lalhuma held a meeting with senior officials in Kohima yesterday and reviewed the preparations.
