Imphal, June 25 (NNN): The "All Political Party of Manipur" in a crucial meeting on Saturday decided to introduce a fresh bill in the next session of the state assembly to "protect and preserve the interest of all indigenous people" of the state after the Protection of Manipur Peoples Bill, 2015 (PMP, 2015) was withheld by the President of India.
The meeting was held in the Cabinet Hall of the CM’s Secretariat here chaired by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, with the issue on protection of people of Manipur being the agenda, according to a statement signed by Ibobi Singh, the chairman of the All Political Party meeting.
“As the PMP, 2015 was withheld by the President, it is felt that a new bill needs to be prepared to protect and preserve the indigenous people of the state immediately,” it said.
The statement said the main objective of the new bill should be acceptable by all sections of the society of the state.
After a detailed discussion, the meeting adopted three important resolutions. The first resolution is to entrust legal and Constitutional experts for drafting a new bill which will enable the state government to enact a new legislation to protect and preserve the indigenous people of Manipur.
The second resolution says the due consultation shall be made with stakeholders of both hills and valley people of the state before finalization of the new draft bill. The third and final resolution is to introduce the new bill in the next session of the state assembly.
