Is a new breed of politicians needed to trigger change in Nagaland? Why?

Some of those who voted YES had this to say:

•    Yes. Definitely we need a new breed of politicians that are willing to serve the people and not their own self interest. This new breed of politicians can come only when the voters also start casting their vote in a responsible manner.

•    We rather have new breed of voters... to create new breed of politicians... Yes is my answer..

•    Yes, and to see leaders like M. Kikon leading the path of change, we Nagas are not too far behind to a total new set up of leaders minus corruption.

•    Definitely yes. We need refined politicians who are responsible, upright, fully dedicated social worker (volunteer) and above all God fearing, whom the voters can confidently vote for.

•    Present politicians are hardcore pilferers. Their itchy fingers will never stop itching. Therefore, a new breed of younger politicians must be allowed to take over the reins and see what changes take place. If the same trend continues even after that, well, we’ll know that Nagaland is going into the drains.

•    Yes, provided they become crusaders of anti-corruption which is ailing our society among many others.

•    Yes, Nagaland has tried the present ones but they don't work. Seeing the needs, many Nagas, especially the younger generation who are more competent in every way are now impatiently wanting to serve and change Nagaland into what it should be in the 21st century.

•    Yes, because we the people had seen the much corrupted politicians of the old breed, unable to change our state inspite of attaining 50 years of statehood. So we should also give a chance to the new breed once.

•    Yes, Nagaland desperately needs a new younger breed of politician that is more liberal in its approach towards the democratic governance. A political party that is more rational with broad based modern concept to take Nagaland to the next level to be a part of the rest of the world, for the times are fast changing and Nagaland cannot afford to lag behind with the present outdated version.

•    Yes. It is high time. We cannot and should not keep electing the same people over and over again. In the upcoming elections in 2018, we must educate the voters to vote honestly for the right candidate.

Some of those who voted NO had this to say:

•    No, we need genuine leaders not politicians.

•    Not really. We have some current new breed of politicians in the present NLA and all they have done is to behave like a typical politician. I dont foresee any changes until and unless the public changes and demand their politicians to behave like responsible people.

•    No, because the mentality remains the same. We need to change the culture of elections in Nagaland.

•    No, not the present type of politician per se, but a Statesman, a Thinker, a Visionary for the generations to come for wellbeing of all the Nagas (above the mindset of narrow tribalism)and one who think for the good of all including the neighboring community.

•    No, we do not need a new breed of politicians, what we need is new breed of voters. A new breed of voters will elect their right representatives who will perform according to the need of the situation.

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:

•    New breed of politicians with strong and clear commitment to serve people of Nagaland is a welcome move. But non will be elected because people, be it commoners or village councils, understand only the colour of money. We cannot accuse the elected members because we all have become slaves to them. New breed of politicians with very strong commitment and honest public can only trigger a change in Nagaland. But as of now, sadly, we are not only a slave but a chained slave in the hands of elected members.

•    Saab ka Saath Saab ka Vikas...Vision required.

• The citizens have the right to vote. The decision is solely dependent on the voters. The citizens need to get enlightened and break the barrier of 'money madness'. One just can't keep complaining after voting by himself. When the society changes, the 'money lords' will no longer occupy the hereditary political power but will go on to the capable ones, willing to serve the people.

• Why colour the present politicians as the mother of all evils. As of now, even new breed of politicians with strong commitment to serve common people will not help because people will not elect them. Naga public understands only Money talk. Just wait and watch, though BJP is hundred percent Hindu religious party,  the next election in Nagaland will be dominated by BJP because like in UP, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa, they are going to use big money and all of us will smile...

•    For good crops you need good quality of seeds. What Nagaland needs is person with sound ideological thinking. But it has failed in Nagaland as you can't even trust churches because they are more loyal to their tribe then Jesus. Recently some organization had come up, but they are also not different; so you will wait till God's coming.
