New cases of 269 hypertension, 69 diabetes detected in Kohima

A total of 269 new cases of hypertension and 69 diabetes cases has been detected in the state capital Kohima during two months screening of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) through Social Health Responsibility Campaign (SHRC).

This was revealed during review programme of SHRC held at De Oriental Grand hotel, Kohima.

This SHRC was initiated by Chief Medical Office, Kohima in collaboration with District Administration and Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP).

Dr Vezokholu Theyo, Chief Medical Officer Kohima said that Indian is faced with the dual burden of both communicable and non communicable disease and many diseases can be prevented by early diagnosis, providing health education timely referral and management.

Dr Thorhusie Katiry, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Nagaland said that hypertension is as silent killer disease and that was a sorry state of affair.

He called upon the citizens to go for regular exercise and medical checkup.

Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Principal Secretary to Health and family welfare said that prevalence diseases of hypertension and diabetes was very high in Nagaland and stressed on the need to create awareness of preventive measures to ensure the people of getting the right health check up and treatment. Stating that with the changing world, food habit and  lifestyle in the society  also keep changing, he stressed on the need to have a preventive measures to get know their  status and have timely treatment.

Dr K Vikato Kinimi, Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare also talked on the importance of social health responsibility campaign and called for adopting preventive measure at all levels. He also suggested regular exercises, jogging for a healthy and long life. Deputy Commissioner, Kohima Gregory Thejawelie felt the need to replicate this venture (SHRC) to other districts and even beyond Nagaland.

Thejao Sekhose, President, AKMWP assured all cooperation and willing to work with CMO in other areas of health sector in the coming days as well. Dozhohu Tunyi, Chairman, Ward 11, PWD also shared his experience on Social Health Responsibility Campaign.
