Dimapur, January 29 (MExN): Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Development, Pangyu Phom inaugurated a ‘rural haat’ at New Chumukedima village, along national highway 29 today. He subsequently inaugurated a family rest house at TL Angami Park located in the vicinity. The ‘rural haat’ building will be used by villagers to sell their local produce. A marketing shed already exists alongside the new building.
In his address, Pangyu said that development in the state can come only through public government cooperation. Though the department of rural development is extending all possible help to the people, development can take place if the public is honest, Pangyu said. “Unless there is honesty, the government cannot help the people,” he remarked. He, therefore, urged New Chumukedima village to utilise development funds extended by the government judiciously. He also urged the villagers to capitalize on the strategically located position of the village; reminding them that many villages in Nagaland still do not have proper road connectivity. New Chumukedima village is located near the Kukidolong River, along the national highway.
Also appreciating the entrepreneurship venture of TL Angami, proprietor of the park, Pangyu said it exemplifies a man with vision. Pangyu said the park will only serve not only the purpose to Nagas but visitors from outside the state as well. He further appealed to the village council to good guardians of the park, as it is an asset not only for the proprietor but for the entire village as well.
Rural Development Director, Metsubu Jamir also pointed out that the village has immense potentials for development due to its location. He urged the villagers to utilise nature’s bounty to their benefit. The programme was attended by senior department officials, Chumukedima Town Council officials, council chairmen of nearby villages and guests.
