DIMAPUR, JUNE 26 (MExN): The second edition of the New Jalukie Super League (NSL) kicked off on June 25 at Public ground, New Jalukie Village under Peren district with Rev Dr Mongzeung Mpom, Pastor, Jalukie Town Local Baptist Church as the special guest.

During a short kick off program, Sangribo Pamai, Convenor NSL Organizing Committee highlighted about the aims and objectives of organising the month long annual football event. He also encouraged the players not to only play football, but to make this event for the holistic development of an individual. 

A short sharing was delivered by Rev Dr Mongzeung Mpom where he reminded the players to keep physically and spiritually fit all the time. He also spoke on sports (especially football) as one of the greatest games/tools in bringing the communities together irrespective of caste, race, gender, religion etc. 

The kick off ceremony ended with a prayer led by Rev Mathiuthai Gonmei, Executive Secretary RBAN, followed by the declaration of the tournament by the special guest. The 2nd edition of NSL will culminate on July 18.

NSL is an annual football 7-a-side event organised by veteran football players and sports enthusiasts of New Jalukie Village with an aim to mould young budding players, promote them at the grassroots level to help them display their talents and realise their potentiality in the discipline of football. It also aims to break down the barriers that divide us from one another and inspires peace and unity in the village.

The league comprises of six clubs namely Anubis FC, Aurora FC, Bridge Colony FC, Griffin FC, Harpy FC and Hornbill FC. During the league stage, each club plays against all the other clubs in a double round-robin style. At the end of the league stage, the team with the most points gets declared the Premiers and presented with a League Winners Trophy, and the top four clubs qualify for the play-offs. The season then culminates with the NSL final to determine the Champions who will be presented with the NSL Trophy.

Unlike the first edition, all the clubs are made mandatory to sign one foreign(guest) player each and all the local players(of which all the clubs are made mandatory to sign at least two under-18 players) are bought through auction process.
