New Municipality Act should not infringe Article 371 (A), state govt told

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 8 (MExN): The three municipalities of Nagaland -Association of Kohima Municipal Ward Panchayat (AKMWP), Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) and All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) has urged the State Government to frame the new Municipality Act as per the applicability of the Nagas without infringing the special rights guaranteed under Article 371 (A) of the Indian Constitution. 

In a joint statement, the three municipalities reiterated that they stand strongly with the resolution No 2 & 3 passed by the three municipal and town councils of Nagaland during a joint meeting held on March 21 at Kohima, wherein it resolved not to allow any form of taxation on property, ie, “tax on land and building” either in municipal or town councils.

In the event of the government failing to frame the new act as per the wishes of the Nagas, the three municipalities and town councils will not participate nor allow and candidate to file nomination or contest ULB election in future, the joint statement further read.
