New political party required: Therie

Former Finance Minister and dissident NPF MLA K. Therie today said that the Naga public will need a political party, which can press upon the Naga national workers to reconcile and the Government of India for early solution. He however said that “only time will tell” if such a development takes place.

Therie was replying to a query whether he is planning to flout any new political party as he is no longer in good terms with the present ministry.

Stating that there is no such plan at present on his mind, Therie however asserted that certainly Nagas will be requiring a party that would convert the illusive reconciliation process into a reality. “Let the time speak”, he said.

Blaming the DAN regime for failing to bring about reconciliation “in truth and faithful style”, he said that token facilitation and support for reconciliation of different warring factions, and for bringing solution was an insult to Naga intelligence.

“Just supporting or facilitating will not make the warring groups to reconcile. It is we who should mediate and create avenues for them to come to one platform”, said Therie, adding that people should not expect the national workers to surrender their cause.

He also said that mere facilitation and support to the reconciliation process and blaming the Naga undergrounds for not coming forward for unification tantamount to passing the buck. “We must draw something between the lines, like the equitable distribution of loss and gain so as to satisfy all parties”, opined Therie.

However, Therie said that Nagas would need like- minded people to further the peace process and to put forth proposals acceptable to all parties before the Government of India. He has suggested the CNBC to spearhead this idea and come up with workable modalities to be put up before the government of India.

Asked to comment on the possible change of leadership in the DAN ministry, Therie said that speculation was rife on this issue. He however, said that if the present DAN government fails to perform as promised in their CMP, people will decide their fate.

“In democracy, majority rules, so majority will decide”, said Therie. He said if the majority decides so, no one can stop from changing the leadership in the DAN ministry.
