Kohima, February 24 (MExN): The Catholic community of New Reserve, Phesama celebrated the inauguration of their new church on February 14. His Lordship, Bishop James Thoppil DD, Bishop of Nagaland, blessed the church, while Irene Sequeira, one of the major benefactors of the Church, inaugurated it.
During his homily at the Eucharist, Bishop James congratulated the people of New Reserve for successfully building their church and urged them to make it truly a house of prayer. He also thanked the Jesuit Fathers for serving the people of the area with so much dedication and commitment.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr. Hector D’Souza, the former Jesuit Provincial of South Asia and the present Development Director for the Kohima Jesuits, hailed the church as a truly miracle that has been achieved through cooperation of people and generosity of donors.
Vikho Yhoshii, Parliamentary Secretary for Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Treasuries and Accounts and Rovileto Mor, DC Kohima graced the occasion with their presence.
The programme that followed the Eucharist included a welcome speech by Khouizo, a short history of the Church by Neilavono Monica, special numbers by the Catechism children of New Reserve, the Jesuit candidates of JTC, Phesama and the CYA of St. Paul Parish, Phesama, and a vote of thanks by Neichulhou.
The Catholic community of New Reserve expressed gratitude to all those who helped make the program a grand success, especially the members of the Baptist and Revival Churches of the area for their whole hearted cooperation.
