The Community Hall Foundation stone of New Reserve colony (Diary Farm, New Reserve, Phesa basa under Kohima Ward 16 was laid by Beizo M Kuotsu, Chairman, Phesama Village Council today.

Speaking as special guest, Koutsu said there are many people living together in a society, but the community can only progress when there are good leaders. In this, he lauded the colony leaders for working in unity and having the vision to develop and work for the betterment of the colony.

Koutsu recalled that 55 years ago in 1968, the state government had asked the elders in Phesama Village to give their land for the expansion of Kohima town which was heartily given. Later, some portion of land that was given out to the state government faced disputes for which the matter was taken to high court in 1998. He said today’s event was significant as it was being done 25 years after it had been taken to court and now there was no boundary or land issue in the day.

Delivering a short speech, Vikehiekho Kintso, Chairman, New Reserve Panchayat expressed that the colony have faced difficulties to conduct community services and programmes for the public in the past due to absence of a community hall. But with generous donation of land by land donors from Phesama village, he said it has given hopes to leverage welfare services for the colony dwellers.

Kintso, meanwhile, lamented that due to halting of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections for many years, there has been lack of fund/resources to construct the hall. However, with donation and help from various people, a small beginning has been made possible.

Other short speeches were also delivered by Vilepi Kuotsu, Chairman, Viyiema Khel, Phesama Village and Ketholese Thanyü, President, Landowners Union, New Reserve Phesama.

Earlier, Rev Vesotsü Rhakho, Police Union Baptist Church made the dedicatory prayer for the foundation stone. Welcome address was pronounced by Avono Leizietsu, Chairperson, New Reserve Women Organization (NRWO) and Thepfüneisa Sileo, Secretary, New Reserve Panchayat.
