New team of officials to lead CAN

Dimapur, November 6 (MExN): The triennial convention of Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) ended on November 6. The day began with a common session titled, ‘Journeying Together’, where the clergy and laity interacted to find ways and means to enhance faith formation and family apostolate.

It was followed by the Holy Eucharist participated also by the parishioners of the Holy Cross parish. During homily, Bishop of Nagaland Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, referring to the gospel of the day, explained the meaning and implication of the resurrection in the lives of Christians. “Our faith in eternal life gives us the motivation to live our earthly life as best as possible, because it is a preparation for eternal life with God. This thought should motivate us to lead a qualitatively better life, different from merely working, earning, eating, drinking and making merry,” the Bishop stated. “Quality of life is not measured by the quantity of our goods, money, furnishing, machinery and latest electronic gadgets, but by the quality of our love, service, dedication and relationships.” Resurrection is the central tenet of Christian faith and the reason of our human existence, Rev. Dr. James added, said a press release from his secretary.

The celebration of the Holy Eucharist concluded with the blessing of the new CAN office bearers for the next three years. The new office bearers are Dr. Simon Neiviselie Dzüvichü, President; Vihoto Marcus and James Tsathrongli, Vice Presidents; Mhaseto Nakro, Secretary General; Ruokuoneinuo Marina & R. Fr. Sojan in his address invited the audience to live a qualitatively convinced life as Christians and make changes where they live and work. Angela Vilanuo, President of Nagaland Catholic Women Association exhorted the community to be example and model for others, having an inclusive, universal and open attitude. “The Catholic Community must be appreciated for the good work they do and they must make their presence felt by their commitment to the Church and the society by their dedicated Christian life,” she stated.

During the cultural extravaganza, a contingent from Aizawl called Project Praise enthralled the audience with their melodious voices and locally composed songs.
