New Year celebrated with zest

Kohima, January 2: New Year 2014 was celebrated across Nagaland on January 1, 2014 with zest and fanfare.

In the state’s capital, the denizens, both young and old, in their best attire and joyous mood were seen attending Church services to seek God’s blessing and offering prayers for a peaceful and successful journey in 2014.

Besides greeting one another, gifts were also exchanged among friends and relatives.

As a goodwill gesture, Nagaland Governor, Dr Ashwani Kumar on December 31, visited Kohima Orphanage Home, Leprosy centre, Old Age Home and Tabitha Enabling Academy, Kohima, where gifts offered to the inmates.

Members of Lions Club of Kohima (LCK) also visited inmates in State Mental Health Institute, Kohima on January 1, 2014. Members of the LCK gifted dal, milk powder, sugar, edible oil, can fish, potato and cakes to the inmates. The members who visited the State Mental Health Institute were Oken Jeet Sandham, Secretary, LCK; Achakbou Newmai, Treasurer, LCK and Khenglubo. Achakbou Newmail after giving a brief note on the various projects and initiatives of the LCK, prayed for the speedy recovery of the inmates in the health institute and also for the good health of the doctors, nurses and staffs.
