
Kohima DC informs officials requisitioned for bye-election Kohima, July 3 (MExN): In view of the bye-election to the 10 Northern Angami - I AC scheduled for poll on July 29, and as per the provisions under Section 159 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, government officials are being requisitioned and assigned different duties to ensure smooth conduct of polls. Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer of Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan (IAS) in this regard has informed all concerned that no exemption shall be entertained except under unavoidable exigencies. Excise personnel seize liquor Dimapur, July 3 (MExN): The Dimapur district excise personnel manning New Field Excise check gate while checking suspected vehicles recovered 612 bottles of assorted IMFL from a zonal taxi (Maruti Alto) bearing registration number NL079911 on July 3 at 6:40 am. The owner of the contraband identified as Shyam Kumar (20) was arrested and penalized under Section 44 of the NLTP Act 1989, informed a press release from Superintendent of Excise & Prohibition, S Chanlei Angh. The liquor was seized under the command of Mainshila, AIE along with ten other personnel, it added. Kevijau Colony affirms to abide by Clean Election principles Dimapur, July 3 (MExN): Kevijau Colony Council (KCC) in Dimapur held a general meeting on Clean Election Campaign with Rev. Kilang Jamir as the main speaker on June 30. Petroleum dealers’ bodies resolve to check adulteration Dimapur, July 3 (MExN): The petroleum dealers’ bodies of Dimapur and Kohima held a joint meeting on June 30 in Dimapur and unanimously resolved to check adulteration of fuels, according to a press release. In this regard, the bodies warned individuals/groups against possessing godowns, storing fuels in any form, or forming syndicate groups to practice such illegal activities. They affirmed to render fullest co-operation to the law enforcing agency in rooting out such illegal activities, stated the release issued by Neingutuolie Kengurusie, president, Petroleum Dealers Association, Dimapur. Teachers attend training on harmful effects of tobacco Wokha, July 3 (MExN): The Wokha District Tobacco Control Programme under the National Tobacco Control Programme conducted a training programme for the school teachers on the harmful effects of tobacco use and role of teachers in tobacco control on June 28 in Wokha Town. Dr. Meribeni Odyuo, DNO, NTCP, Wokha stressed on the need to advocate the ills of tobacco amongst children. The schools through the teachers, she said, have contact with the child from kindergarten through to class 12 and so they play an important role in reducing tobacco use amongst the young. She urged the teachers involved in tobacco control activities to be tobacco free and be role model for students. Altogether, 40 teachers participated in the training which was held at the Chief Medical Officer’s conference hall. 24 NL (I) Coy NCC training underway Kohima, July 3 (MExN): 24 NL (I) Coy National Cadet Corps (NCC) began its Annual Training Camp (ATC) on June 29 at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma. A total of 391 cadets and 6 ANOs from 20 different schools and colleges are attending the camp, which will end on July 8. The cadets will be given training in Firing, Weapon Training, Drill, Map Reading, Swachh Bharat and First Aid, informed a press release from Lt Col Shamsher Singh, Camp Commandant, 24 NL (I) Coy NCC. The opening address was given by Col. JS Dalal, the Officiating Group Commander. He motivated the cadets and exhorted them to make best use of the training camp.
