Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) has called a ban on railway line construction work in Manipur’s Tamenglong and Jiribam beginning Tuesday midnight protesting against the government for failing to clear the backlog over payment of land compensation to affected people.
The decision was taken by the student body after the concerned authorities neglected the repeated appeals for clearing the compensation to be paid to the remaining affected people, KSO Tamenglong and Jiribam general secretary J Thangboi said.
Work on the rail project will be banned from Tuesday midnight to pressurise the government to fulfil the demand, Thangboi said. He said the stir will continue till January 17 midnight.
The rail project connecting Jiribam subdivision and Tupul in Tamenglong district is likely to be completed within three years at an estimated cost of around Rs 4,445 crore. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NEFR) undertaken project is targeted for completion by 2018.
Cong govt in Mizoram have declared development holiday: Zoramthanga
Aizawl, January 12 (PTI): Former chief minister and opposition Mizo National front (MNF) president Zoramthanga today launched a scathing attack against the state government saying it is suffering from acute financial anaemia due to gross fiscal mismanagement during the past seven years.
Zoramthanga alleged the financial crisis under the regime of the Congress led by Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla was irreversible. "The financial anaemia is like a human being without blood and could not be cured," he said.
Alleging that there was no development during the Congress regime, he said the state government has declared a "development holiday" during its seven year rule.
State finance minister Lalsawta's words of consolation to the people in regards to the financial mess was that he would be able to arrange fund for payment of the salaries of regular employees under the government for December, 2015, Zoramthanga alleged.
No proposal for setting up Bru Development Area: Mizoram CM
Aizawl, January 12 (PTI): Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla today said the state government will never allow division of the state on communal or ethnic lines and there is no proposal for setting up a Reang (Bru) Development Area. Addressing party workers at the Congress Bhavan, he said that a mistake in an official press statement recently snowballed into a controversy.
"A fund earmarked for development of people living in remote areas was mistakenly projected as for Reang Development Area development fund," he said. The Congress government would never take steps towards further division of the state on ethnic lines and the political parties should ensure that intra-ethnic squabbles are avoided, he added.
