NSCN (IM) Angami Region urges candidates
Kohima, February 20 (MExN): The CAO of NSCN (IM), Angami Region, Zeneituo Angami has appealed to the candidates for Nagaland assembly election from Angami areas not to buy the electorates to vote against their will. In a press release, the CAO also requested the candidates “not to encourage their polling agents for proxy voting and sharing of uncast votes in order to enhance the voting percentage in their respective Polling stations.” Meanwhile, the release congratulated all civil society organizations and the political parties in Nagaland for taking another ‘historic stand’ after the 1951 Plebiscite by declaring ‘Solution Not Elections’. However, the CAO regretted that “the ECI has imposed its elections in our land against our will.”
DNNRE laments lack of development in Nyiro Range
Wokha, February 20 (MExN): The Executive Committee of Dimapur Nkonjan Nyiro Range Ekhung (DNNRE) has expressed unhappiness and displeasure over the lack of developmental activities at Nyiro Range under Wokha district. In a meeting held on February 14 in connection with the present developmental activities at Nyiro Range, the Committee lamented that compared to other ranges Nyiro Range has “become the most underdeveloped and neglected area in Wokha district.” A press release from DNNRE chairman, Chiporao Ngullie and general secretary, Sacheo Ezung further informed that any individual within and outside the Range who indulges in violence by defying the NRPO directives shall be held responsible and doing so at his/her own risk.
NCP Nagaland condemns assassination in Meghalaya
Dimapur, February 20 (MExN): The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Nagaland State unit has condemned the assassination of NCP candidate of Meghalaya, Jonathone Sangma along with his two supporters and bodyguard by unidentified assailants in East Garo Hills, Meghalaya on Sunday. “The NCP Nagaland Unit is shocked on the brutal act of this event and demands justice, that strict actions should be taken immediately by the concerned authority without any further delay,” stated a press release from Vanthungo Odyuo, president, NCP Nagaland. The unit also extended condolence to the bereaved family and NCP functionaries.
NDPP Phek Town youth for clean election
Phek, February 20 (MExN): The youth of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), 19th Phek Town A/C has agreed to support clean election and further requested the denizens to support the same. “To observe the beauty of democracy, no individual or group shall invite violence in the town,” the NDPP youth decided in a meeting. A press release from the NDPP Phek Town youth president, Kuzota Dozo and general secretary, Seo Hoshi further asserted that it “strongly regards free and fair election and shall take its own course of action if found violating democracy in its jurisdiction.”
NPF 58th Shamator-Chessore A/C members resign
Dimapur, February 20 (MExN): The vice president of NPF 58th Shamator-Chessore Assembly Constituency, J Shiuto along with 20 party members of Shamator village unit has resigned from both active and primary membership of the NPF. This was informed in a press release from Shiuto.
NPP welcomes new members
Dimapur, February 20 (MExN): The National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland State has welcomed several people who have resigned from the BJP, Longleng district office and 50th Longleng Mandal (Assembly Constituency) area and joined the NPP. A press release from NPP Nagaland State IPR secretary, Limanuksung Longkumer informed the new members that the party under the leadership of Conrad Sangma, national president NPP and Ato Yepthomi, State president, NPP Nagaland “welcomes you to the fold ensuring to strengthen and maintain the unity at all levels to make the right individual to enrich the lives of the people in all spheres.”
One arrested with liquor
Dimapur, February 20 (MExN): The Excise Narcotic Cell personnel performing Election Expenditure Monitoring (EEM) duty recovered 1008 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from a location near Dimapur Government College on February 19. One person identified as Suman Nath (23) was arrested and a case has been registered under the NLTP Act 1989 in this regard, informed a press release from Tarep Imchen, Commissioner of Excise & Prohibition. The State Excise and Prohibition department, the release stated, will continue to check and maintain strict surveillance to curb the illegal flow of liquor in the state.
Wokha battalion of AR seize liquor
Wokha, February 20 (MExN): Wokha battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) established a mobile vehicle check post at SBI junction, Bhandari Town on February 17 and recovered 55 liters of “local gin” from one Maruti van bearing registration no. AS 05 A 7784, informed a press release from Assam Rifles. Two persons identified as Albert Kikon (31) and Thungstho Yanthan (31) were apprehended in this regard. The two along with the liquor were handed over to Bhandari Police Station on February 17 for further investigation, it added.
NNC & FGN joint meeting
Kohima, February 20 (MExN): A joint meeting of the Naga National Council (NNC) and Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) will be held on February 26 at 10:00 am in Transit Peace Camp (TPC), Kohima. The focus of the meeting will be “International objective” of the Naga Nation, informed a press release from Thihü Khamo, Secretary, Federal Government of Nagaland. Therefore, all the eligible central authorities, regional authorities and the Naga Army officers of the NNC/FGN have been requested to positively attend the meeting.
