DC Phek issues strict order on hunting Phek, May 31 (DIPR): Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Muruho Chotso has strictly prohibited the people of Phek district from carrying any kind of fire arms and air gun or non-fire arms by any person or group of persons for the purpose of hunting in the district with immediate effect. This order comes in view of citizens in some villages under Phek district continuously indulging in hunting despite the standing ban order. The DC maintained that killing of wild animals and birds in violation of the standing ban order as well as environmental laws is very serious offence. He further warned that anybody or group of persons found violating this order will be liable to be punished under the provisions laid down under the environmental laws and wildlife protection laws. HASPO condemns Dimapur, May 31 (MExN): Highway Area Sumi Public Organisation (HASPO) has condemned the "attempt made on the life" of Tokishe Achumi, GB of Thilixu Village on May 28. "Barging into the residence of the GB at night or for that matter into any other citizen’s residence with weapons is a serious offence that can never be justified whatsoever," HASPO stated in a release issued by its President, Kaiho Zhimomi and General Secretary David Zhimo. Standing in solidarity with Tokishe, who is also its treasurer, HASPO stated that in a democratic society, any misunderstandings or issues should be sorted out through talks or understanding and that resorting to intimidations and violence will only aggravate the problem at hand. The organization appealed to the district administration to take serious view of the matter and the police authorities to take stern action against the accused. KMC informs Kohima, May 31 (MExN): Painting and renovation of the footbridge at Mezhür Higher Secondary School is underway. Therefore, Kovi Meyase, Administrator, Kohima Municipal Council has requested all to avoid using the footbridge, placing banners and hoardings till the renovation works are complete.
