NF Railway provides shelter to flood-affected

Maligaon, August 22 (MExN): Amidst ongoing heavy rains and severe flooding in Tripura, the Northeast Frontier Railway (N. F. Railway) has stepped up its efforts to ensure the safety of passengers and provide much-needed assistance to flood-affected residents.

On August 21, a potential disaster was averted thanks to the vigilance of railway staff. Loco Pilot R. N. Kumar and Assistant Loco Pilot Surajit Debnath, while operating train number 05676 UP Dharmanagar - Agartala Passenger Special, noticed an obstruction on the railway track at around 10:10 AM near Baramura hill ranges, approximately 33 kilometers from Agartala. The train, carrying about 1,000 passengers, was brought to an immediate halt by the crew, just 100 meters before a massive landslide of mud and trees blocked the tracks. Their quick response prevented a possible tragedy.

In a similar incident today, the Kanchanjungha Express (train number 13174) was safely controlled after receiving information about a fallen tree obstructing the railway track between Teliamura and Jirania stations. These prompt actions by the railway staff have been crucial in ensuring the safety of passengers during these hazardous conditions.

As the floods have forced many residents to seek refuge, N. F. Railway has opened its stations as shelters. Udaipur station, among others, has become a safe haven for those affected by the deluge. The railway authorities have ensured that waiting rooms, toilets, and other essential facilities, including 24/7 access to drinking water, are available to those taking shelter.
