Dimapur, February 24 (MExN): The Nagaland Foothill Road Construction Committee (NFHRCC), Contractor and the Department of PWD (R&B), conducted a joint inspection to the ongoing construction site of the Doyang Bridge, Governor's Camp, Liphanyan-Koro on February 22.

In a press release received on Monday, the NFHRCC urged the State Government to explore setting up “a specific head to complete the funding of the remaining approved amount once the bridge is completed.” It said that the Special Plan Assistance (SPA) fund, which initially funded the project, was stopped due to certain changes in Governmental funding.

NFHRCC also directed the construction firm to complete the remaining portion of the construction in this working season and assured them that the committee will ensure timely release of funds.

The construction firm is said to have aired their frustration that altogether 39 months were wasted due to many unforeseen reasons. It however, assured the visiting team that it would do its best to complete the remaining works without much delay “even though the last tranche of fund release was done in 2017,” the press release stated.

The departmental technical experts said that the progress of the construction has picked up satisfactorily and assured the team that they would submit the updated progress report to the higher authorities at the earliest, it said.

The committee expressed hope that the Government of Nagaland and the implementing agency will expedite the completion of the project at the earliest and appealed respective Executive Engineers of PWD(R&B) to provide reports as per the Chief Engineer’s directive on or before March 15, 2020 for smooth coordination for the clearance of the entire Foothills stretch.

Further, the NFHRCC acknowledged the presence of the newly constituted Lotha Lower Range Public Organisation and requested the organisation to co-operate and extend support to the EE, PWD(R & B) Baghty Division in executing the work under its jurisdiction.
