MALIGAON, NOVEMBER 28 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed the electrification of both pit lines at Kamakhya Junction, a key upgrade aimed at enhancing maintenance capacity ahead of the introduction of Vande Bharat Express and Amrit Bharat trains.
NFR said the infrastructure improvement will strengthen the station’s ability to handle and service modern trainsets. As part of the upgrade, eight new pedestals have been constructed to support Pantograph (Panto) and Roof Mounted Package Unit (RMPU) maintenance activities required for Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat rakes.
The railway has also completed comprehensive staff training to ensure technical readiness for handling the specialised maintenance needs of the new trains. The training included modules on electrified pit line safety, Panto and RMPU servicing and modern maintenance protocols.
NFR said the upgrades form part of Indian Railways’ efforts to modernise infrastructure and improve maintenance efficiency, while supporting the national goal of achieving a carbon-neutral railway network by 2030.
