Guwahati, February 5 (MExN): The much anticipated electric train service in N. F. Railway became a reality with running of 55704 Katihar – Malda Court Passenger train with Electric engines recently. The electrification work of Katihar – Kumedpur – Malda Court had been completed in December last year and Commissioner of Railway Safety had permitted running of passenger and goods train in the section. Following the clearance, the first passenger train in the electrified section was run on January 24. NFR remains the only railway zone that is yet to be electrified and according to a press release, the NFR is taking up works to electrify New Jalpaiguri – Bongaigaon – Guwahati section.
