NFR gears up to lead Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign

MALIGAON, SEPTEMBER 14 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is set to take a leading role in the nationwide "Swachhata Hi Seva 2024" campaign, an initiative dedicated to enhancing cleanliness and promoting environmental sustainability.

This year’s campaign, which runs from September 14 to October 2, celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission and culminates on Swachh Bharat Diwas, paying homage to the Father of the Nation.

The theme for 2024, “Swabhav Swachhata - Sanskaar Swachhata,” underscores the importance of individual and collective responsibility in upholding cleanliness. It revolves around three main pillars: Swachhata Ki Bhaagidari, Sampoorna Swachhata & Swachhata Lakshit Ekayi (CTU Units), and Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir.

In alignment with Indian Railways' objectives, NFR has outlined an ambitious schedule of activities aimed at fostering active participation and achieving tangible improvements in cleanliness. The campaign will commence with a Swachhata Pledge at NFR’s headquarters and will feature a widespread cleanliness drive across its offices, institutional buildings, railway stations, trains, railway colonies, and surrounding areas. Key focus areas include maintaining clean railway platforms, tracks, toilets, and drainage systems, as well as Pay & Use toilets, waiting rooms, and other railway facilities.

A standout feature of NFR’s campaign is the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" initiative—a large-scale tree plantation drive scheduled to take place at Maligaon. This initiative aims to boost environmental awareness alongside cleanliness efforts. Additionally, Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) have been designated for special events during the campaign period, complemented by public awareness activities such as Prabhat Pheris, Nukkad Nataks, and workshops involving schools and NGOs.

NFR is also endorsing the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) initiative by establishing RRR centers for waste collection and processing,

promoting responsible disposal, and encouraging recycling. Efforts will also be made to support the sale of recycled products, reflecting NFR’s commitment to a circular economy and waste reduction. Moreover, the Swachh Food Initiative will focus on ensuring cleanliness and hygiene in food preparation and distribution across railway platforms and trains.

The Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign is an opportunity for citizens, partners, and stakeholders to engage actively in making cleanliness a way of life. NFR invites all passengers, employees, and local communities to join in this collective effort, emphasizing a ‘Whole of Society Approach’ to sanitation and making cleanliness a shared responsibility.
