Dimapur, April 10 (MExN): The General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, conducted a comprehensive safety inspection from Katihar to New Jalpaiguri, reviewing operational and infrastructural aspects across key sections.
During the inspection, the General Manager examined critical railway assets in the Katihar-Dandkhora and Mukuria-Barsoi sections. The inspection covered level crossings, track geometry, gang working, curves, major bridges and Switch Expansion Joints to assess adherence to safety standards. A detailed inspection of Dalkhola station, including point machinery and level crossing infrastructure, was also carried out.
A speed trial between Dalkhola and New Jalpaiguri was conducted at 110 kmph to evaluate track quality, ride comfort and overall operational readiness of the section.
The visit also reviewed staff welfare initiatives at Katihar. Improvements at the Divisional Railway Hospital, including an upgraded Physiotherapy Centre and advanced dental facilities, were assessed.
The General Manager held interactions with representatives of recognised unions and associations. Developments at the Railway Institute, Community Hall and Staff Canteen were also reviewed.
The Training Room and Model Room at the New Pit Line were inspected to assess technical training and capacity building efforts. The Crew Lobby was also inspected to review passenger amenities and staff working conditions.
In the area of sports and recreation, a renovated basketball court at KROC/Katihar and a proposed cricket pavilion were reviewed. The 109 Acre Eco Park was also visited as part of efforts towards environmental sustainability and recreational infrastructure.
The General Manager also reviewed the commissioning of a 1111 kWp rooftop solar power plant at Katihar Junction.
The inspection concluded at New Jalpaiguri. Shrivastava expressed satisfaction over the progress of developmental works and emphasised the need for continued focus on safety, maintenance and passenger-centric services.
