MALIGAON, NOVEMBER 22 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is taking proactive steps to ensure safe and efficient train operations throughout the upcoming winter and foggy season. In response to the unique challenges posed by low temperatures and reduced visibility, NFR has rolled out a series of precautionary measures aimed at safeguarding both train operations and passenger safety, a press release issued by CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma informed on Friday.
To prevent rail and weld failures caused by the dropping temperatures, NFR has initiated thorough examinations and lubrication of rail joints. Additionally, necessary de-stressing of Long Welded Rails (LWR) and Continuously Welded Rails (CWR) is being conducted. The Railway has also identified RF/WF-prone (Rail Failure/Weld Failure) locations, which will be closely monitored and rectified as needed. Cold weather patrolling has been enhanced, with GPS-enabled monitoring systems in place to ensure precise oversight of rail conditions, in line with established guidelines.
In preparation for the challenges posed by dense winter fog, NFR has deployed advanced Fog PASS (Fog Pilot Assistance System for Safety) devices. These systems assist train drivers by providing real-time navigation assistance, ensuring safer and more timely train operations despite reduced visibility.
Safety inspections are being rigorously carried out on train roofs, under-gear components, locomotives, and rolling stock, with advanced technologies employed to identify potential vulnerabilities early. Additionally, track monitoring and maintenance have been prioritized, utilizing Ultrasonic Flaw Detection and other modern techniques to identify and address any potential hazards.
NFR is also upgrading its signalling systems to ensure smooth communication and operational reliability. Emergency preparedness has been further bolstered through specialized training for frontline staff and regular mock drills, ensuring that personnel are fully prepared for any unforeseen situations.
A robust feedback mechanism has been established to track the progress of these safety measures, ensuring compliance with directives from the Railway Board. By combining cutting-edge technology with stringent safety protocols, NFR is committed to maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and passenger service throughout the challenging winter and foggy season.
