NFR imposes speed restrictions between Abhayapuri & Jogighopa

Maligaon, July 17 (MExN): The authorities of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) have imposed speed restrictions on the Goalpara - Jogighopa route from railway km 25 to km 29.


Pranav Jyoti Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer in a press release stated due to continuous heavy rainfall causing inundation of vast areas in the Goalpara - Jogighopa region, people from many villages have flocked to the railway embankment to take shelter from the rising flood waters.


Large number of people with their belongings and cattle has been taking shelter on the railway embankment in the said section since the last many days, the railway embankment being the only stable structure offering protection of a highland to the marooned villagers, the release said.


The trains are now being run with restricted speed in this section. The drivers of all trains passing through the section have also been issued instructions to whistle continuously while passing through this stretch where people have taken shelter so that any kind of causalities or injuries to the villagers and their cattle can be avoided. The release mentioned that in the wake of recent floods, NFR has attached additional coaches in popular trains for the convenience of people wanting to travel to and from Guwahati due to disruption of road network in various places in upper and lower Assam.
