MALIGAON, DECEMBER 29 (MExN): Indian Railways is accelerating the deployment of Kavach 4.0, its advanced automatic train protection system, across key routes to bolster safety and improve the operational efficiency of its trains. Kavach 4.0 is an upgraded, technology-driven solution designed to prevent accidents and ensure smoother operations by adding an extra layer of safety and control.
As part of the initiative, all locomotives previously equipped with earlier versions of Kavach will undergo upgrades to the new Kavach 4.0 system. The North Frontier Railway (NFR) network, spanning approximately 1966 route kilometers (RKM) from Malda Town to Dibrugarh, has been identified for the system's implementation.
Kavach 4.0 is a significant part of Indian Railways' broader modernization efforts, aimed at enhancing infrastructure and safety standards. The new system is designed to reduce human error and prevent accidents, integrating various advanced technologies. Key components of Kavach 4.0 include the Station Kavach, which receives data from Loco Kavach and signaling systems to guide the locomotive, and RFID tags installed at regular intervals along the tracks. These tags monitor the train's location and direction, ensuring continuous tracking and control.
Indian Railways has long been focused on improving safety to reduce train accidents, and the rollout of Kavach 4.0 represents a major step in that direction, a press release issued by CPRO, NFR stated. This initiative aligns with the Railways' commitment to providing safer travel experiences for passengers while modernizing the country's railway network, it added.
