NFR opens first ‘Trans Tea Stall’ in country

Maligaon, March 10 (MExN): In a bid to empower Transgender, a Trans Tea stall has been opened at Guwahati Railway station today which will be fully managed by the Transgender community. This initiative by NF Railway is a first of its kind over the Indian Railways. It has been done with active collaboration of All Assam Transgender Association, Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer, NF railway stated in a press release. 

Anshul Gupta, General Manager, NF Railway inaugurated the ‘Trans Tea Stall’ at platform number 1 of Guwahati railway station in presence of Swati Bidhan Baruah , Associate Vice Chairman of the Transgender Welfare Board of Assam on March 10.

During the inaugural, Anshul Gupta said that NFR has taken the initiative for empowerment of transgender. He further said that this initiative is the first of its kind in NFR as well as in Indian Railways. Also he said that this is also first such initiative in any Central govt organization and NFR will take more such initiatives in future. Swati Bidhan Baruah expressed her immense pleasure over the initiative taken by NFR.

The Government of India has approved a comprehensive scheme for Transgender named ‘Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise’ which includes a sub-scheme for Comprehensive Rehabilitation for Welfare of Transgender Persons. 

This is a first ever such initiative not only in Indian Railways but in any government organisation in the country. NF Railway plans to operate more such Trans Tea Stalls at other Railway stations in the region, the release added.
