
MALIGAON, JULY 2 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recorded steady growth in freight unloading operations during June 2025, unloading 1,099 freight-carrying rakes, a 17 per cent increase compared to 939 rakes in the same month last year.
According to a press release issued by the CPRO on Wednesday, NFR handled a total of 13,091 freight rakes during the financial year 2024–25, reflecting its operational efficiency and consistent performance.
In June 2025, 627 rakes were unloaded in Assam, including 315 carrying essential commodities. In addition, 72 rakes were unloaded in Tripura, 15 in Nagaland, 5 in Meghalaya, 6 in Mizoram, 7 in Arunachal Pradesh, and 9 in Manipur.
Freight unloading also continued in West Bengal and Bihar within the NFR jurisdiction, with 198 and 160 rakes respectively.
The freight included items such as FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, food grains, fertilizer, cement, coal, vegetables, automobiles, tanks, and other goods. These were unloaded at various goods sheds under NFR’s jurisdiction.
The release added that the regular movement of essential and other commodities has played a key role in sustaining local economic activities across the region. Enhanced monitoring at all levels has helped reduce turnaround time and improve unloading efficiency.
