NFR recovers over 5 cr from ticketless travellers in July

Dimapur, Augusat 16 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has recovered an amount of Rs. 5.33 crores from 74432 ticketless travellers in the month of July, an official informed today.   The recoveries from ticketless or irregular ticket passengers were about 9.5% higher than the corresponding figure of Rs. 4.84 crores collected during the same period last year, stated a press release from NFR Chief Public Relations Officer P.J. Sharma.   NFR is conducting a relentless drive against ticketless travelling in Mail Express and Passenger trains, it said.   During the period from April to July this year, as many as 280443 passengers were detected to be travelling with irregular ticket or without ticket in trains, it added.   This is about 14% more than the corresponding period of last year and the amount realized during this period is Rs. 19.24 crs, which is about 22.00% more than last year.   “As per section 137, of the Indian Railway Act of 1989, travelling without ticket, improper ticket or un-booked luggage in an offence punishable by imprisonment or fine or both,” the release said.   To discourage ticketless travelling, NFR has put systems in place whereby surprise ticket checking drive is conducted by Flying Ticket Checking Squads of Divisions as well as HQ, it added. Fortress checks are also conducted in stations.
